What are all these certifications? And what do they mean?

Certifications are important. With them we certify quality to our customers and business partners by the neutral proof of a third party. And we give them the security not to buy the pig in the poke.

Over the years we at Schätzl accumulated a lot of certifications. Pretty documents on high quality paper with a lot of abbreviations like PSD, QMS or DIN ISO and so on. But what do they actually mean? What do they stand for?

This little blog post is intended to remedy this problem.

Lets go!

Process standard in digital printing (PSD)

What’s up with PSD Certification? To the prehistory:

Offset printing is completely standardized and the matching certification of print shops has been standard for 20 years. The certification here is called PSO (Process Standard Offset Printing).

However, there was no such thing for digital printing, either in terms of standardization or acceptance. In addition, the situation is much more complicated compared to offset printing. After all, the term digital printing encompasses a wide variety of printing processes with a myriad of substrates.

Another good reason to introduce such a certification in digital printing is the fact that of course more and more customers want to have control over the products they buy. That is why industry-wide accepted means of control and certification have also been introduced for digital printing.

The result was the PSD certification. The following criteria are checked by them: image quality, edge sharpness, line thickness, color accuracy, addressability, granularity, homogeneity, streakiness, fading, repeatability, abrasion, adhesion, tonal fading and possibly color bleed through. So a lot.

Schätzl print emotion was tested in May 2018 by CtP & Print from Augsburg and has achieved the PSD requirements in the premium class A. Your orders are in good hands with us.

certifications

FSC certified

The FSC seal could already be known to several. FSC® stands for “Forest Stewardship Council®”. It is an international certification system for more sustainable forest management. The wood of furniture, toys, books, exercise books, or other FSC-labeled print products comes from forests that are managed more responsibly.

Because sustainability and environmental protection are just as important to us as flawless print quality, we have certified ourselves here as well. From the production of print products to further processing, our product chain is seamless and therefore complies with FSC standards.

certifications

QMS: ISO 9001 certification

The quality management standard ISO 9001 is the most widely used standard in quality management (QM), both nationally and internationally.

With a quality management system (QMS) in accordance with DIN EN ISO 9001, we ensure comprehensible, transparent processes. At the same time we also send an important signal to our customers and partners. Consequently, we have optimized our work processes and increased our competitiveness.

The advantages of a certified quality management system for our customers:

  • Regular control of the system by external auditors
  • Higher product, process, and service quality
  • Higher customer satisfaction
  • work relief through more efficient process organization
  • Work processes are transparent and comprehensible for the customer
  • More attractive prices

QMS: ISO 9100 for aerospace engineering

For someone who is interested in print products rather unimportant, we would like to mention this certification.

This is an extension of the ISO 9001 which goes even further into detail and specializes in the field of aerospace engineering.

With a certification from the EN 9100 series of standards, we prove that Schätzl meets the industry-specific high standards for an aerospace management system.

We have them because we also have customers in this industry.
